What is a regret? I know better now, how and what not to do. I have changed & learned something. Congratulate yourself. You are wiser. That’s progress—it’s not shameful. My mother never had regrets to my knowledge. To have regrets means you must change.
Life seems to be a cosmic crapshoot. Screwing up is part of it. Regrets are mile markers on the road. Our personalized path through life (as it is made for us to learn what we need) can get a little twisted. This is a good thing. With only one twist, a circular loop of ribbon, which previously had both an inner and an outer side, becomes an infinite loop where there is only one side—and one path. With that single half turn, you now have a Mobius. It’s the worldwide symbol for recycling.
Mobius Regrets can be an infinite loop to better.
When we can get to this…this loop of wholeness, then there is nothing to forgive because it is all part of it. Every piece, every prayer is part of the journey. All the rules that I have earned, learned and offered to you, lead up to this ripeness.
With a few of these maturing rotations, I started to be aware that I landed in the same place—the spot in which I did not want to be. Before you bootstrap yourself back up into the same self-denying loop (that must again, by definition, land you on your knees in that same puddle), resolve to choose better. We Choose One from the best at hand—love or fear. We cannot always be right; regrets are part of it but we don’t want to get stuck in the story, or in the hallway before the next door of our lives opens. “Regret for lost time, is more lost time.” Mason Cooley Wait Here, Listen, instead to what you truly want. (It seems simple—just pronouncing the words.) I get so distracted by other people’s needs and the cuckoo’s stories nesting within my own, but the still small voice does not lie. Flash Light. Navigate with Etak’s Compass. What lights you up? If it doesn’t spark joy throw it out of your closet—and your focus.
We are the generators of our firefly existence by getting our stuff out of the way…so it doesn’t block the light that is us. I change, learn, and with luck, integrate my experience. It renews me and frees up space inside for a better fit to find me. It clears ground so I can plant a new life outside—the one for which I was born.
But, hey—if you’re not there, don’t twist yourself into a pretzel. Stop. Rest. You’re normal and this is the part of the road where we have lots of company. Wait Here --or go grab a friend for a good Cackle over cocktails. Do some quiet Quantum Composting to get your ground ready for some new seeds. Nourish yourself--go eat something happy: Mangia, Mangia.
Start again tomorrow. It is like a shower, we need to practice daily.
