The Full Moon & Our Eclipsing Superpower

PictureA solar eclipse over Vancouver & the a lunar eclipse over Jerusalem
An eclipsing moon in the East greeted me when opening my door to the still dark day. Before early morning chores (before I fed my two cats—Smith and Wesson, before even coffee…), I saw, but did not know, if the show was almost done or just beginning. However, I knew with a different part of me that it was to be spectacular.

This is the oh-so-human way of discerning: head and heart. These days, as a hospice chaplain, and caregiver to caregivers, I listen more carefully now.

The eclipsing heart is unbalanced...       (read more...click below)

PictureSUPERMAN'S HEART Be the first & second to comment and I will send you one. Really.
But when head and heart are aligned, they are more...
Gratefully, it is no longer head or heart for me. I no longer eclipse the powerful, and resilient longings and discontents of my heart for those of only logic or strategy.

Superman's Heart is whole. That is a superpower.
It is no longer head vs. heart for me. That Divine prizefight was won by the boss of me (aka my kindly kingdom within), my heart, in my caregiving years. I had heard on the radio yesterday just enough information that the moon would be a triple play: a blue moon (2nd one in the month…), bigger than usual and a full eclipse.

It was enough data, that the “lizard brain”, primitive parts of me were comfortable enough to not send out panicky hormones that a deity was ruining my day by ending the world. We have progressed beyond that. (Haven’t we?)

  • “Whether we like it or not, though, the lizard is simply us. Every habit and hangup, every dread and desire in our minds is dependent on neural pathways that were once laid down by our personal experiences. Like every other organism on earth, we carry the history of a long, successful lineage in our genetic and biological makeup. The question of what to do with those resources, though, isn’t predetermined by the past. It’s up to you.”--Revenge of the Lizard Brain, a Scientific American Blog post by Ben Thomas on September 7, 2012

This is good news.

Accessing Great Power
When we choose to listen to all of our parts…and decide which one is the boss of us, we access great power. We all have this in us, as human beings, should we choose to accept the mission.

Choose a wiser path in balancing our head and heart is more effort and twofold:
·      being more self-aware (am I reacting out of a fear-based neural road?) and
·      acting in alignment with self-respect and self-care (as in taking sweet small steps of action…)

From this place of balance, (i.e. taking care of myself while I care for my others) we access resilience.

The moon does not take the place of the sun, neither are eclipsed. They both are archetypically represented by:

·      • The Moon: as right brain, feeling, intuition, & our heart-felt natures
·      • The Sun: left brain, logic, intellect, and action

They align and overlap in harmony. It is a spectacular, celestial thing to see.

"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a
faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the
servant and has forgotten the gift."—Albert Einstein

You can change in a heartbeat... in this moment with sweet, small steps. It will create a kinder world for you, your family, and the world.

Well said, Eleesabeth. Don’t you just love Einstein? His scientific “servant” combined with his ability to honor his intuition made him such a genius. For me, noticing the beauty and feeling the awe of an experience like this one brings the connection to Spirit and the desire to share the love.

Yes...I do love Einstein.

I was listening to Jeremy Taylor's book The Wisdom of Dreams (my Kindle was reading to me...) and he quoted a Tibetian teacher as saying that enlightenment was 'habitual intuition'. I think Einstein would agree...

Thanks for the comment... Hey anyone else want to comment? I still have one more Superman's heart tee shirt...?
